fudōsan shutokuzeiふどうさんしゅとくぜい

Real estate acquisition tax

A one-time prefectural tax on acquiring property — currently 3% of assessed value for land and housing (4% for other buildings), with substantial reliefs for residential use. The bill arrives by mail several months after purchase, which surprises buyers who thought they were done paying.
