住宅ローン
jūtaku rōnじゅうたくローン
Home loan
A residential mortgage from a Japanese lender. Rates are famously low, but access for foreigners hinges on residency: banks generally require living and working in Japan, and permanent residency unlocks the best terms. Non-residents usually buy in cash or borrow in their home country. Old, cheap, or non-rebuildable properties are hard to finance regardless of nationality.
